Membership Responsibilities

A. Attendance Members will: 

~ Commit to regular attendance at rehearsals and concerts. Any member who is absent from more than three consecutive rehearsals without an acceptable excuse may be considered for dismissal. This will be done at the direction of the Executive Board.

 ~ Arrive on time for rehearsals and performances. This means that at the start of the rehearsal or performance, members are in their chairs with instruments assembled, music in order and having done a little warming up. 

~ Make every effort to avoid disrupting and distracting colleagues and director if a member must arrive late for a rehearsal. 

~ If a member will be absent from a rehearsal or concert, they will notify section leader, band director and/or band president. 

 

B. Uniforms 

Prior to being accepted as a member of the band, players will wear black or navy pants and a blue shirt when performing with the band in concert. 

Members will: 

~ Wear the band uniform only for band functions. ~ Not drink alcohol in public while in uniform. 

~ Keep their uniforms clean and pressed for each engagement. ~ Return their complete uniform and badge upon departure from the band. 

C. Decorum Members will: 

~ Pay attention to the director, watch and follow. 

~ Raise their hands to be recognized by the Band Director when they have questions or comments during rehearsals. 

~ Turn off cell phones and not take or make calls during rehearsals or performances. 

~ Refrain from talking while the band is rehearsing or performing a piece of music. 

~ Remember that they are visible to the audience at all times. 

~ Visually acknowledge audience during applause before arranging their music for the next piece. 

~ Stand after a performance as directed and acknowledge the audience. 

~ Enjoy themselves and their colleagues, keeping in mind they are representing the Minneapolis Police Department. 

 

D. Musicianship Members will: 

~ Strive to continuously improve the artistic level of their playing. ~ Practice band music between rehearsals. 

~ Come to rehearsals prepared to play. 

~ Be sure the folder for their part is available for another player if they must miss a rehearsal or concert. 

 

E. Citizenship Members will: 

~ Respect their colleagues. Avoid accidental damage to equipment or instruments. 

~ Look for opportunities to volunteer, such as helping with treats, assisting with fundraising as needed, serving on the board of directors, assisting the librarians. 

~ Respond to special requests from band director or president. Members will, to the best of their ability: 

~ Assist with setup of rehearsal/performance room before rehearsals and concerts, 

~ Assist in putting away stands, chairs and tables after rehearsals and concerts. Leave room tidy. 

~ Assist in loading and unloading equipment at concerts.

Membership Dues

The amount of dues shall be set by agreement of the Board. The fee shall be due in the first quarter of the year. Currently the dues are $40.00 a year.

Failure of a member to pay dues may result in dismissal from the band. 

Notice of delinquent dues shall be reported to the Board. Such notice will come from the Treasurer at the end of the first quarter of the year.

Membership

QUALIFICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP 

1. Any member of the Minneapolis Police Department or Minneapolis Park Police Department shall be eligible to become a member, subject to the recommendation of the Band Director and approval of the membership. 

2. Any civilian willing to assume the responsibility of being an active and participating member of the band shall be eligible for membership. After recommendation by the Band Director and approval of the membership, this person may become a member of the ban 

3. No Auditions are required.
